Shirley Levi is a visionary singer, songwriter, music producer, music video director, painter, activist and founder/CEO of Re-bel Visionary Music. She also remixes her own music, under the pseudonym DJ S.F.L, for radio and dance clubs worldwide. Since forming Re-Bel Visionary Music, Shirley Levi has been able to develop a strong underground following for her music. This website has had over 15,000,000 hits worldwide and her exclusive one-of-a-kind promotional tool DJXPRESS has put her music and remixes in the hands of the worlds top DJs. Countless FM radio stations, internet stations and dance clubs from all around the world now feature her music on a regular basis. Radio stations currently playing Shirley's music can be seen at here. She has also had a special live TV performance and interview on Telemundo in support of her autism awareness campaign. Shirley's fan base is strongest in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Canada, Asia, but ultimately stretches to every country. Shirley Levi's independent music video for her hit song "YOUR EYES" has become a much requested hit on Canada's BPM TV, one of Canada's top music video stations. Her video is currently in rotation on their number one show, "BACK @ YA". After all of Shirley Levi's successful underground efforts, she is proud to have signed a deal in 2008 with EMI Mexico. Her skillful directorial debut with the music video for her hit song "Your Eyes", which she also wrote, produced and edited, got Shirley Levi chosen as one of the top female music video directors in the country to shoot a pilot for VH1’s up-coming reality show “Clash of the Music Videos”. The show put top directors from around the country in a competition to recreate a famous music video from the past. Shirley worked with other directors on remaking the video for DEVO's hit song "Whip it". Shirley is also currently developing a documentary style reality show of her own, which will chronicle her struggles within the music industry and the making of her album "BREAK FREE". In addition, Re-Bel Games, a division of Re-Bel Visionary Music, is developing a multiplayer music game, which could very well set a new model for the struggling music business.
English is her primary language, but Shirley also sings in Hebrew, Spanish and Farsi. Shirley is known for the uplifting, spiritual and inspiring messages that are found in her music and for being an advocate for autism awareness and other charities. Although she fuses many styles and cultures, her music is very accessible to the mainstream. Her powerful and timeless music is filled with heartfelt melodies and unique vocals, which blend western and world influences. Her music has been compared to everyone from Madonna to Depeche Mode, yet her distinct style sets her apart from everyone. Her music is theatrical and dramatic. Unlike most artists who stick with the same formula, Shirley's songwriting, production, and emotional dynamic in her vocals and melodies are extremely diverse. Shirley's intense stage presence and attitude outshines even seasoned performers. The energy displayed in Shirley's live performance has been compared to Elvis, Michael Jackson, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Annie Lennox and Mick Jagger. Shirley moved to the US when she was five and had to overcome many social and cultural obstacles because she did not speak the language. She taught herself how to paint and to write, produce and perform music and began to realize that the things that made her different were actually her strengths, not her weaknesses. After experimenting in the San Diego underground music circuit with DJs, eclectic musicians and participating in spontaneous live performances, Shirley moved to Los Angeles, and began making her mark around town by performing sold out shows at venues such as the The Opium Den, The Knitting Factory, and House of Blues. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Shirley met an Israeli producer named Nir, who would become the co-producer on her debut album "Break Free". Shirley Levi is one of the few artists that not only writes all her own lyrics and music but also co-produces and oversees every facet of production down to the art of mastering. The album was started in Los Angeles and eventually completed in Israel in late 2007. Shirley Levi is one of the first commercial artists of her generation to successfully blend American Rock, Pop & Folk, European Dance & Electronica, and Middle Eastern and World Music.
To meet Shirley Levi is to meet a beautiful, high-spirited, intelligent artist who is simply trying to make a positive change in the world, to uplift spirits and to bring people closer to their true calling. She is not a radical trying to overthrow a government or topple a theocracy. She is just fighting to have a voice; fighting for freedom as a female artist. Her underground spirit and originality give hope to all other artists who don't fit into any specific genre of music yet can achieve great recognition and have a large worldwide audience.
Shirley Levi has overcome many of the bias set upon her as a woman from a foreign country to become an important musician and much more: She is also developing her own apparel company called "T-Shirley". Her T-Shirleys will cross promote her album, "BREAK FREE" and its inspirational messages and also feature her original designs on t-shirts, accessories and on her signature sunglasses. One of her main logos, "THE BOXER", represents her message to "STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE!" Because Shirley had very little money for wardrobe, she began to create her signature look by just painting her clothes like canvas. Realizing that her signature look had broad appeal, she decided to launch a division of apparel and accessories for her fans.
Her spirit is a glowing example of what anyone can do as long as they never stop fighting for what they believe in. Her music isn't just soul-less pop. This is why Shirley Levi is one of the most important musical artists of her generation. Shirley formed "Music on my Shoulder", a charity which uses the proceeds from her song "Anne Marie" to raise money for autism awareness. Her message of hope has spread into many hearts because of her tireless efforts and her special radio interviews with Autismone.org and television appearances on Telemundo.
Shirley is also mystical painter. All of her original paintings, which go hand in hand with and translate her music, life path, song titles, spiritual & mystical messages, & lyrics can be seen here
